Section Two The Root of Life
始生之者，天也；养成之者，人也。能养天之所生而勿撄之谓天子。天子之动也，以全天为故者也。此官之所自立也。立官者以全生也。今世之惑主。多官而反以害生，则失所为立之矣。譬之若修兵者，以备寇也，今修兵而反以自攻，则亦失所为修之矣。
Nature is the mother of all creatures on the earth, while human nurses . He who nurses nature's creatures without offending nature is the Governor, have people 's life protected , have people's born nature maintained. By this means, offices were set up. The governance mechanics were built to protect people. The Governor who get lost on the meaning of life, would harm the people through redundancy governance mechanics. For instance, the existance of army provides protection from agressors, in case army were used to attact people, it would have biased the original intention of army 's existance.
夫水之性清，土者抇之，故不得清。人之性寿，物者抇之，故不得寿。物也者，所以养性也，非所以性养也。今世之人，惑者多以性养物，则不知轻重也。不知轻重，则重者为轻，轻者为重矣。若此，则每动无不败。以此为君悖，以此为臣乱，以此为子狂。三者国有一焉，无幸必亡.
The nature of water is clean, while mud makes water unclean. Human beings would have long life expectancy while excessive pursuing of physical happyness obstacled it. One should take advantage of materials to enrich his life , but to exchange materials with his life. The one who get lost on the meanings of life would attempt to aquire more physical happyness than he should have, that is , he couldn't figure which is more important between materials and life, would take materials more important , by no means he would succeed in doing anything. Further more, based on this logic, the Governor would make mistakes, the officers would mess up with their jobs, the son would object his father. The country would destroy itself once any of the three cases happen.
今有声于此，耳听之必慊，已听之则使人聋，必弗听。有色于此，目视之必慊，已视之则使人盲，必弗视。有味于此，口食之必慊，已食之则使人瘖，必弗食。是故圣人之于声色滋味也，利于性则取之，害于性则舍之，此全性之道也。世之贵富者，其于声色滋味也。多惑者，日夜求，幸而得之则遁焉。遁焉，性恶得不伤？
Do not enjoy the sound if it will deaf you, no matter how amazing it is. Do not enjoy the color if it will blind you, no matter how outstanding it is. Do not enjoy the food if it will poison you , no matter how tasty it is. People with wisdom will make the best choice , embrace that would be good for life, give up that would be not , in terms of his attitude towards sound , color and food . People with tremendous fortune , nine out of ten , would indulge themselves in restlessly pursuing of physical happyness , dive into material ocean and lossing self discipline once they reached the beach, how could the life without self discipline hasn't be a dizaster?
