PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device allowing an ordinary doctor to alwayscarry the device like a stethoscope, and to accurately measure the state of the cerebralcirculation blood flow locally and uninvasively.

SOLUTION: Near infrared light is divided; one is the reference light and the other isthe incident light to the head of a living body. The Doppler shift is generated from thekinetic motion in a tissue of the living body caused by the incidence of ultrasonic wavesinto the head of the living body at the same time, and beat signals are generated fromthe interference of the near infrared light reflected from the tissue of the living bodywhere the Doppler shift is generated and the reference light. The generated beat signalsare detected, and the variation of the blood flow is computed based on the variation ofthe signal strength.
