It enjoyed the flowers and the sunshine along the way. It talked with worms(蠕虫). It found lots of different pieces, but none of them was fit. What is Britpop? That’s a good question. The music is certainly very catchy. You can often recognize a Britpop song as soon as you hear it. Some of the biggest Britpop bands include Oasis, Blur, Suede and Pulp. However, bands like Oasis that are considered Britpop have more of a rock style (风格).
So how do we recognize the difference between Britpop and regular rock or pop? Well, Britpop mixes a number of different pop and rock styles with interesting lyrics and attitude. But it’s not just about the music. Britpop is also about fashion, art and politics (政治).
If you watch their music videos, you’ll see how fashionable Britpop singers are. Some of them hire famous artists to help them make more creative videos. English artist Damien Hurst, for example, produced some of Blur’s music videos. As for politics, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has talked about how much he enjoys Britpop. Perhaps he was just trying to sound cool to win more votes (投票) from young people.
Britpop came and went in the 1990s. Britpop bands had some big hits at the time. Pulp’s most famous song is Common
People. Blur’s Country House is about a wealthy man who lives a boring life in a big house in the countryside. Blur and Oasis were probably the most popular bands.
However, just like many fashion and art trends (潮流), Britpop didn’t stick around for long. By the end of the 1990s, Britpop was no longer fashionable. Fewer songs were produced and most Britpop bands broke up. 1.According to the story, what is Britpop? A.The name of a British band. C.A kind of music video.

D.The name of a British singer.

16、 There was a time when hot summer days brought children outdoors to local rivers to catch minnows (米诺鱼). Walking in cool rushing water to catch the small, silver fish was a fun chance on a hot summer's day. Before setting out for the river in their neighborhood, however, children first had to look for a bag. Both boys and girls loved this outdoor activity a lot.
While reaching the side of the river, the children pulled off their shoes and socks and put their feet first into the cold water. Walking carefully in the water, they looked for the right place where the minnows flashed (闪光). Catching
D.Business.
minnows was very easy if two children worked together. Taking two corners of the bag, each child stood in the water and slowly lowered the bag until it was at the bottom of the river. Then, standing very still (静止的), the children waited for the fish in the river to do normal activity. The children would again get a corner of the bag in each hand and raise the bag straight up quickly, keeping it as level as possible. Lots of tiny silver fish would cover the bag.
The joy of catching minnows is that, once caught, the fish are thrown back into the water to continue their natural lives. Perhaps they will be taken up by other children and then return to their watery home again. So the bag is lowered back into the river, and the small fish swim off. Then the whole process is repeated once more as more minnows are caught and then released (释放).
1.Why did children first have to look for a bag? A.They looked for something to protect themselves. B.They looked for the tool to catch fish. C.They had to use the bag to take the fish home. D.They had to use the bag to divide the fish. 2.What does the second paragraph mainly tell us? A.Why the children catch minnows. B.Why the children like playing in the water. C.When the children go to the river. D.How the children catch minnows.
3.What does the underlined word “lowered” mean in Chinese? A.把……混合
B.把……擦掉
C.把……放低
D.把……分开
4.How do the children deal with the fish they catch? A.They throw them back into the water. C.They keep them as pets.

17、The Silk Road is the name of different roads that long ago connected Europe, Africa and Asia. People reached these different places along these roads. Scientists believe people began to travel the Silk Road about 3000 years ago. By the time the Chinese silk trade became important in the world, the Silk Road covered almost 6500 kilometers. It spread from Rome to China, which is from the West to the Far East.
Traders travelling along the Silk Road carried silk, of course. They also carried and traded spices (香料), cloth, valuable stones and gold.
There is a famous old story along the old road. It is said that Roman soldiers travelled through central Asia. They
started to live somewhere near the ancient Chinese village of Liqian, Some of these Romans married local Chinese women and the story of blue-eyed villages of China was started.
During its busiest period, the Silk Road allowed people from many different cultures and countries to meet each other and mix. The Silk Road allowed the sharing of valuable goods and new ideas. These included people and trading goods from the Mediterranean, Persian, Magyar, Armenian, Bactrian , Indian and Chinese areas. All these peoples travelled the Silk Road, and they shared goods, stories, languages, and cultures.
In modern times, the old Silk Road routes are still used, but now they are crossed by trains instead of camels and horses. There is even a Silk Route Museum in Jiuquan in China. 19、Boys and girls, the final exams are coming. What should we do in order to prepare well for the exams? Here are some suggestions.
Firstly it’s important for us to be in good moods. Don’t be nervous or stressed. Otherwise, we will not have the courage to face difficulties. Secondly, we should have proper aims and learn to plan well. If we aim too low, we may become lazy. If we aim too high, we may lose confidence. Thirdly, we’d better communicate more with our parents, teachers and classmates. They can help us get out of trouble if any. Fourthly, Keeping a good balance between study and rest can make us energetic. Finally, a healthy diet is very useful as well. With these done, I believe we can be successful in the exams.
