When I began planning to move to Auckland to study, my mother was a little worried about the uncertainty of living in a place that was so different from India, where we lived. She worried particularly about the lack of jobs, the cultural differences and the chance that I would face racism.

Despite these worries, came to New Zealand in July 2014. I have found the place and people very nice and supportive. Soon after I arrived, realized the importance of getting a job to supply my living expenses.

Determined to do this on my own, I spent a whole day going from door to door asking for a job. However, I received little or no response. This became my routine every day after college for a few weeks.

One afternoon, I walked into a building to ask if there were any job opportunities. The people there were very surprised, and advised me not to continue my job search

I was a little surprised, but had a good feeling about him, so I went along. Along the way, I realized that I had run out of copies of my resume(简历). The man stopped at his business partner’s office to make me 15 extra copies. He also gave me tips on dressing and speaking, and added that I should give him a call if I ever needed anything. I handed out my resumes and went home feeling very satisfied. The following day, I received a call from a store in Royal Oak offering me a job.

It seems that the world always gives back to you when you need it. And this time, it was a complete stranger who turned out to be a real blessing. 24. What wasn’t the author’s mother worried about? A. People might look down on the author.

Whether you’ve been in college or you’re looking forward to going to university in the future, you and your family likely spend some time worrying about the cost of your college education. It’s no secret that college is one of the biggest investments. However, that will go to great avail for years to come. Earning scholarships is a great way to help you. The Financial Aid Office at Illinois State helps students identify scholarship opportunities every day. Here is some advice to help you.

Begin in your own backyard

Have you asked your high school or community college financial aid office about scholarships at your school? Many schools have a list of several scholarships right there. Local awards can often be easier to get as the applicant pools are smaller and less competitive. Check with community organizations, banks and credit unions, and large employers who may offer scholarship opportunities in your area.

Find your “hook”

While you’re searching, consider what makes you special as a student. Your unique characteristics can help your scholarship applications stand out. Pay special attention to awards that mention your best qualities, whether that’s academic achievement, leadership, community service, or something less common. Think about why a donor wants to assist you in paying for your education. Most scholarship providers want to encourage a particular behavior. Companies may want to attract future employees. Non-profit organizations like helping those who support their cause or suffer from the disease they’re working to fight.

Develop a routine

Every scholarship is different in terms of when you can apply, what you need to submit, when the winner is announced, and how the money is given to you. Typically? scholarship applications open in the late fall or early spring for the next school year’s awards, but that also varies depending on the donor. There isn’t a single

Love and Friendship

They are both so much related to each other. And both are so dissimilar! What are the differences between friendship and love? Is platonic(柏拉图式的)friendship possible between persons of the opposite sex? 36

What is friendship? Why do we call a person our friend? When do we call someone a very good friend? If we care for a person, if we are always ready to help that person and if we share most of our thoughts with that person, he/she is our good friend. We can always count upon our good friends in an emergency. We are always sure that our friends will understand why we act in a certain way. 37 The friendship is so deep and the relationship is so intimate, that most of the things are automatically understood by our friends.

38 In a relationship with deep love, all the sharing that we discussed above is taken for granted. But love transcends(超越)all this. In love, we are attached to a particular person, while in friendship, one may have many friends. A loving relationship makes one so much attached to the other that one gets pained if his/ her beloved is hurt! Love also involves a physical element. 39 This is a vital difference. Nature gives us love so that the species can go forward. Nature does not give us friendship.

Your heartbeats will never increase in anticipation of meeting your friend. 40 You will not feel totally lost, if you don’t meet your friend for a few days. You will not have dreams in your eyes thinking about your friend. But in love, you will do all this and much more. Indeed, there is no comparison between love and friendship.

A. What about love?

B. Friendship does not have that. C. My answer is “Yes”. D. Let us try and understand.

E. The physical element may include hand in hand while walking. F. We need not explain anything to our very good friends. G. You will not lie awake at night thinking about your friend. 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节,满分45分)

第二节 书面表达(满分25分) 【参考范文】

In recent years, the topic whether it is fair for athletes to pocket a large sum of money has aroused a heated debate.

Those who support giving sportsmen high salaries think that athletes have won a great reputation for our country in the Olympic Games. What’s more, athletes must receive painstaking physical and psychological training. Besides, they can encourage young people to take part in physical activities.

However. some people hold different ideas. They argue that athletes do little to boost the national economy. Thus they should not receive so much money.

As far as I’m concerned, they should get high salaries, considering all the efforts they have made.
